Varanasi is also known as Benaras, Banaras and Kashi, North India is a city on the banks of river Ganges in northern India. The traditional derivation "Varanasi" connects the names of two Ganga suburbs in the name of the construction of the borders of the city: Varuna, which is still flowing in northern Varanasi, and Assi, today is a small village near the Assi Ghat in the southern part of the city . It is believed that this is Lord Shiva's house. Some Hindus believe that Lord Ganesha honors Lord Shiva in the direction in which Ganga river flows in it. Usually, the river flows from north to south, but in Varanasi it flows from south to north. This city is considered to be an ancient city in the world. There are 88 ferries in the city, most of the Ghat are used for baths and puja festivals, while two ghats are specially used as cremation grounds.

Most Varanasi ghats were built after 1700 AD, when the city was part of the Maratha Empire. The patrons of the current ghats are Maratha, Shinde, Holikar, Bhosale and Peshwa (Peshwans). Many ghats are associated with mythology or mythology whereas many ghats are privately owned. The morning boat ride on the Ganges crossing the Ghats is the attraction of popular audiences.
